Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
What exactly is "automated retail," and how is it different from a vending machine?
The category has moved well past the coin-operated snack box. We work with gold-standard, wall-mountable retail machines that feature built-in wifi, cashless payment, HD touchscreen selection, and remote monitoring. Just as important is what goes inside: our stations are curated amenity points built for the business traveler, not snack-and-soda machines. The hardware is designed to blend into a considered hospitality environment rather than stand out from it.
What does Cascadia actually do?
We assess your property, place and install the equipment, keep it stocked, and maintain it over its full lifecycle. You provide the space and point guests toward it. Everything else — curation, restocking, monitoring, service — is ours to manage.
Who is behind Cascadia?
We're a local, family-run business focused on the Pacific Northwest hospitality market. That focus is deliberate: we know this region and this traveler through lived experience, and we run a white-glove service model built around it.
Working Together
What does this cost my property?
That depends on the partnership structure you choose. We offer three:
Revenue Share — We install, stock, and maintain each unit at no cost to the property, and you earn a percentage of every transaction.
Flat Lease — Your property receives a fixed monthly payment for each machine placed, regardless of sales volume.
Hybrid — A modest base payment combined with a revenue-share tier above an agreed-upon transaction threshold.
We arrive at the right structure together, based on your property's demographic and foot-traffic patterns.
Is there a way to try it without committing?
Yes. We offer a 90-day zero-risk trial. If an amenity station isn't providing value by 90 days from installation, we remove it — no questions asked, and no effort required on your part.
How long is the commitment, and is there a contract?
All services are provided under an individual service agreement that we structure openly with you. We aim for long-term partnerships, but we start by earning that with the trial period rather than locking you in up front.
How do we get started?
It begins with a 30-minute conversation and a walk of your property. We'll give you an honest read on what we see, where placement makes sense, and whether Cascadia is a fit at all. If it isn't, we'll say so.
On Your Property
Will this compete with our restaurant, bar, market, or gift shop?
No — and this is central to how we work. We do not offer traditional food or beverage items, and we have no interest in undercutting your established retail. Our planogram focuses on business-traveler amenities, and we site our stations to complement your existing offerings, not compete with them.
Where do the machines go, and how much space do they need?
We walk the floor plan with you and identify two or three areas where placement will see the strongest natural use: think end-of-hall, elevator lobbies, or the fitness center. Wall-mounted units have a minimal footprint and are designed to pass virtually any hallway siting test. We prioritize real foot-traffic patterns over bare wall space.
Who installs everything, and what do my staff have to do?
Our insured team handles installation under the guidelines set by your operations staff, coordinating mounting, electrical, and signage. Most installations happen in a single day with no guest disruption. From there, your staff fields no maintenance calls, places no inventory orders, and troubleshoots no payment terminals. The one thing that helps is simply making inquiring guests aware the amenity is there.
What happens if a machine runs low or has an issue?
Remote monitoring flags low inventory and equipment issues, often before a guest would ever notice. Restocking follows a cadence matched to your occupancy patterns, and if something comes up in between, our local team is there within 24 hours.
Are you insured?
Yes. Cascadia Amenities carries general commercial liability insurance, and our installation team works within your property's regulations.
Guests & Products
What gets stocked?
Business-traveler amenities: the things people need at the moments a property is least able to help. That spans device chargers and earbuds to over-the-counter items like ibuprofen, plus sleep masks, dental floss, and similar travel essentials. What we do not carry is traditional food and beverage.
How do you decide what goes in the machines?
Curation is anchored to your specific guest profile. A property serving the sales road warrior is stocked differently than one built around conference traffic. We adjust the product mix over time based on what actually sells at your property.
How do guests pay?
Cashless and contactless: tap-to-pay, mobile wallets, and cards, available 24/7 with no wait and no trip to the front desk. This matters for late arrivals, early departures, and international travelers who may not be carrying local currency.
Industry Context
Why are hotels adding automated retail now?
A few shifts in traveler behavior sit behind it. Guests increasingly expect around-the-clock, self-service access rather than amenities that close with the front desk or the gift shop. Contactless payment has become an expected standard rather than a novelty. And the gap that tends to show up in reviews and satisfaction scores is rarely the 9-to-5 experience; it's the late nights, early mornings, and off-hours in between. Automated retail is one way properties address that gap without adding staff or extending hours.
Isn't this just a vending machine with a nicer name?
The distinction that matters is service model and curation. A traditional vending route drops a machine and collects from it. Our model is closer to a managed amenity: deliberate placement, a product mix built around your guests, remote monitoring, local service, and a partnership structure designed around your property rather than a one-size box. The goal is to turn space you're already paying for into something that quietly serves guests and supports the property.
What kinds of properties is this best suited to?
Properties with meaningful business or traveler foot traffic, from select-service and upscale hotels to extended-stay and conference-oriented properties. Because we tailor curation to the guest profile, the fit is less about a property's category and more about who's walking its halls at 11 PM.
Do you serve my area?
We focus exclusively on the Pacific Northwest. If you operate a property in the region, reach out and we'll let you know honestly whether we're a fit.
